The leela fiasco is an instrumental rock project based in improvisation and producing an eclectic assortment of musical textures - dynamic songs tempered by melody. Evolving out from under the rock and roll 'power trio' guitar, bass and drums archetype, the band soon realized that they could rewrite the rules to fit their whims and set forth wreaking havoc on unassuming crowds of people. Erik (drums), Scott (bass) and Clay (guitar) seek to blend the sounds and rhythms of their experiences and then pull from them at will, separating and combining these threads to make something new. Hints and shades of fusion, punk, bluegrass and electronica appear and flicker about, watching. The musical world of the leela fiasco is always in flux - at times moody and expressive, other times overwhelmingly powerful - but they do not mind. Actually, they seem to thrive on their ability to embrace and express so much variety. There is one constant, though: the leela fiasco plays good music no matter what you call it.
In July of 2000, the leela fiasco released the 'Free & Tasty' EP, featuring two songs from their upcoming self-produced album and a bonus live track recorded at the Local Tremors event, Spring 2000. These EP's are available for free from the band on a first-come, first-served basis - 'free and tasty, the way it should be!' in addition to online at theleelafiasco.iuma.com and at www.mp3.com/theleelafiasco as well. Be on the lookout for the leela fiasco's first full length CD - 'Smoke & Mirrors', due out late this fall.
