echo JANES was originally formed in 1992 as a four piece CT based all female band playing original pop/rock/power folk/blues music appealing largely to the college crowd, landing many gigs at UCONN including Spring Weekend 1992 where they shared the stage with national recording artists, The BoDeans. In 1992 echo JANES was nominated for 'Best New Band', 'Best Original Band', and 'Best Alternative Band' in the Hartford Advocate Reader's Poll. In 1994 the band continued their success, sharing the stage with national recording act, TRIBE, on three occasions at The Sting in New Britain. Later in 1994 echo JANES was honored by being asked to record live at The Sting for the WHCN 'Zomething Different ZD', a CD which represented the best in live local music.
From 1996 though 1998 echo JANES experienced a variety of personnel changes and musical growth continuing to perform in the Connecticut and Massachusettes areas, and again being nominated in the Hartford Advocate Reader's Poll for 'Best New Band' and 'Best Alternative Band'. Throughout this time echo JANES had the honor of sharing the stage with national recording artists such as Clarence Clemons, The Committments, Universal Honey and others. In 1998 before taking time off, echo JANES played their final show at The Webster Theater in Hartford opening a sold out show for national recording act, Nils Lofgren.
In 2001, original members vocalist/rhythm guitarist, Marie, vocalist/bassist, Colleen, drummer/percussionist, Janice, former member rhythm/lead guitarist, PJ, and the newest member, vocalist/lead guitarist, Sarah, have reformed with a renewed sense of spirit and direction allowing this creative cohesive unit to transcend many musical styles and yet maintain an original sound. Their comeback performance in June 2001 in which they opened a show for national recording artist, Jonatha Brooke, was very well received.
