Swimming in the categories of Dredg, Foo Fighters, Staind and A Perfect Circle, this is an act that takes the format for a spin that'll leave you comfortably dazed and asking: 'Why the hell haven't I heard this before?' Cage9 has opened for Cheap Trick, Smile Empty Soul, Spineshank, James Iha, and toured everywhere from Costa Rica to Europe to the East Coast. Recently signed with BMG Music Publishing, the trio has songs featured on the new FX show 'The Shield' and on ESPN/Japan. 'Li'l Doggies' was a #1 most requested song on Panama's rock stations and 'Remember December' was #2 in the pop/rock category of Garageband.com's reviewer's picks. Cage9 was mentioned in Billboard Magazine for winning Best Alternative Band, Best Male Vocalist and Best Video in 2003's Panamarock Awards. Cage9 recently returned from an Ecko Unlimited sponsored tour to Panama where they headlined two near-sold out 1,000 plus shows and continue to garner a strong radio presence. On their home-turf, they've independently released three other CDs, selling thousands of copies domestically and elsewhere. Songs from their new release titled 'the Onyx Inch e.p.' have caused commotion on the internet on such sites as PopBang Radio where 'Planet Me' has been consistently one of the most listened to tracks. The live video of 'Sick of It!' was the #1 download on Panamarock.com which topped 3 million visitors that month. Cage9 was the 2003 #1 Ultimate Streetfight Champion on Streetwise's online fan competition, beating out hundreds of other bands. Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Evan Rodaniche has produced and recorded 'a million and one punk bands' including Grammy-nominated Los Rabanes and yes, all of Cage9's repertoire. But it's his Incubus meets Metallica vocals and alt-rawk guitar grit that balance the band's fresh dynamics. Cousins Gustavo Aued and Ivan 'Pipo' Canton rattle the bass and drum Richter scale by melding their well-versed progressive influences in the bands mid and lo end. 'We've been seeing these guys stencils ALL OVER the streets of L.A...these guys are definitely in it to win it' - Streetwise.com. Recognized by many noteable locals, such as Dino Cazares, as one of the 'hardest working bands in town,' Cage9's currently making the most of their new SoCal surroundings evoking a D.I.Y. grass-roots buzz to promote their many local and outta' town shows. Drawing close to 300 fans @ 8 p.m. on a Sunday night to a House of Blues show after little more than a year on the scene, (((Cage9 is feeling 10 feet tall.))) The band is currently scheming to continue cultivating their growing fanbase across the states the only way they know how - out of the back of their Astro Van. Coming to a venue near you in 2004!

Skinnie Magazine April 2004Local Noise by Rick Mann There is that rare occasion when you hear a local band and they surprise you with how talented they really are; cage9 is that local band. This Los Angeles based band, originally from Panama, has just recently signed a record deal with BMG Music Publishing, and deservedly so. Cage9 is a three-piece ensamble made up of Evan Rodaniche on guitar and vocals, Gustavo Aued playing bass, and Ivan 'Pipo' Canton bangin' the drums. Mixing styles such as punk, hard rock and a bit of alternative, cage9 has been compared to some mainstream bands of notoriety such as Staind and Foo fighters. Touring the States, Costa Rica, and Europe, Cage9 has had the opportunity to open for Cheap Trick, Smile Empty Soul, and Spineshank, to name a few. Independently releasing three Cd's in their home country, their new release titled 'the Onyx Inch EP' can be heard on internet sites such as PopBang Radio, and bought on their own website www.cage9.com. Not only have these guys already experienced huge success in Panama, they are starting to get their due credit here in the States with songs on the new FX show 'The Shield' and on ESPN/Japan, people are starting to notice and pay attention. On the Internet site, streetwise.com, Cage9 was voted 'Hot Band' for the month of December. Just last month they played the legendary Viper Room with Becky, the band with which Keanu Reeves is a member. On Saturday march 13th I had the privilege of covering Cage9 at The Gig in Hollywood.Close to 1 a.m. in the morning as I stood there waiting to see a band I had never heard of before, I started to wonder if the hour plus drive home later was really going to be worth it. Just then the curtain started to rise and the music began. I was impressed! I was experiencing a local band that not only could produce amazing music switching from all out rock to harmonious guitar melodies, but could actually sing as well. Not only could they sing, they sang lyrics, all of which are written by lead singer Rodaniche, that are quie simply amazing. Their talent doesn't stop with the music; they have personality and stage presence unlike any local band I've seen. They started the show with riveting songs such as 'A Compromise,' 'Planet Me,' and 'Octopussy.' 'A Compromise' earned Cage9 the title of #1 Ultimate Street Fight Champion of 2003. While 'Planet Me' is listed as one of the most popular songs on planetbang.com, 'Sick of It' is the bands first big time song with an upcoming video release. Looking back these songs seem like foreplay for the final song of the night, 'Fear and Sex.' Needless to say, the drive was more than worth it. If you ever get a chance to see Cage9 live make the most of it.
