Seduced by your dirty blues and cheesy ballads, compulsive songwriter Woodstock Taylor is on a brief visit to Earth. For the past ten years or so she has been churning out an eclectic mix of strangely accessible tunes with proper lyrics. During that time she has had the chance to work with some people she really admires. A bit of a musical chameleon, she's been compared in the press to characters as diverse as Tom Waits, Kirsty MacColl, Edith Piaf, Michelle Shocked and Marianne Faithfull. Really she just sounds like Woodstock Taylor.
Child singer turned bar-room pianist, Woodstock Taylor took up the guitar in 1994 because it was easier to carry than the piano. The same year she attended a songwriting workshop with Ray Davies, and has since worked with music legends such as Zoot Money and Pete Brown, as well as collaborating with other artists on various diverse musical projects.
Her critically acclaimed songs have been heard on BBC Radio and around the world, recently achieving chart success at GarageBand and on several internet radio stations, plus Reviewers' Awards including Best Female Vocalist, Best Lyrics and Most Original Track. Woodstock's songs have been selected to appear on several compilation CDs, and she has also appeared as a guest vocalist on Viennese musician Richard Kapp's debut album, Watering Cans. A new collection of Woodstock's songs, entitled Welcome To Planet Woodstock, is now available from her Cuppa Records website.
Appearances in 2004 include the CCA, Glasgow, the Borderline Theatre, Ayr, the Trowse Festival, Norfolk, Wickerman Festival, Dumfries & Galloway, Edinburgh People's Festival, Craigmillar and the Arts For Life Festival, Prince's Street Gardens, Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Based in Edinburgh, has a guitar, will travel.
