Western Star
Band Biography

  • From: Tooele, UT
  • No. of Members: 5
  • Year Established: 1998

Western Star has crossed several boundries between Country and Rock & Roll. They call their music 'Cowboy Rock & Roll'. With an upbeat, exciting show, they keep their audiance rockin' with just enough of the slower stuff to keep the Cowboys 'belt buckels polished'. They play at different venues around the Tooele and Salt Lake area. If you like Country but not in to the 'cry in your beer' stuff, you'll really like what these guys do.

The memebers of 'Western Star' come from a broad range of musical influences. From country, rock, blues, hard rock, soft rock, these guys incorperate it all to get the sound they are looking for....And they found it. Most all of their songs have a 'county' flavor to them, just sometimes you have to listen to the lyrics because their music ROCKS! John Needham, lead vocals & acustic guitar from Tooele, is down to the bone country. He has been in bands since his high school & miltary days. He brings the 'Western' to the name of the band. Mike Cedar, back up vocals and rythm guitar from Stansbury Park, has a blues tone to both his vocals and rythm. Erik Hanson, drums and percussion from Rush Valley is rockin'! His heavy 'rock' influence is just what is needed to keep the exciting and upbeat tempo 'Western Star' has. Kelly Dare, bass guitar from Tooele, has been in several area bands and has an 'overall' bass sound. He is comfortable doing the 'hard rockin'' country sound or the slower, more traditional country, but every now and then, he can cut loose with a radical 'thumpin'' bass line. Last but certainly not least is Brad Hanson, lead guitar and electric slide from Rush Valley. Brad has a 'unique' style all his own. With his back ground in 'hard & soft rock', his abilty to combine the slide and finger picking lead, sets 'Western Star' apart.

'Western Star' is currently playing in local venues in and around the Tooele & Salt Lake areas. They are starting to work on their CD which they hope to have out by the end of this year. For booking information or dates and venues where you can catch this exciting band in person, you can e-mail them at buck@lakecityint.com or call (435) 882-4825.

'Western Star' is dedicated to entertaining the 'modern' country/western crowd. If you're ready for a high energy, exciting and fun show, grab your boots, hat and a dancin' partner and come check 'em out. You'll be glad you did.
