Village of Hermits draws on numerous influences, from the psychedelic/acid rock sound of the 60's as well as obscure Celtic bands(with a little blues thrown in for good measure.)The audience that they attract is basically Bohemian, both young and older; college kids find it fascinating as well.Sometimes, they set the mood with low lights, scented candles and a movie screen as a backdrop.People definitely come in to check them out.Village of Hermits was founded in Springfield MO in October of 2003. They are not a household word; yet. They are way too bizarre for some people.
The resident madman Mark Staudte plays six and twelve-string guitars as well as handling the blues harp and lead vocals. Elise Richter is young but quite accomplished on the flute and penny whistle. She also has an awesome voice and contributes back-up vocals and occasionally sings lead. Last, and certainly not least, is the mysterious fiddler extraordinaire, Moonbeam.
In 2004, the band went took a long hiatus. They have had several personnel changes but hope to add to their line-up.Hopefully, 2005 will see them placed on the map where they belong
One could safely say that attending one of their shows is a unique experience. Come and discover for yourself.
