Trystero’s original songs and provocative concerts are at once accessible and intricate, weaving rich harmonies with energetic jams and fresh poetry. At the core of Trystero is a trio: David Koltai (guitar/vocals), Tyler Hersey (Rhodes piano/guitar/vocals), and Pete Day (bass/ trumpet/vocals). Seasoned drummer Rachel Bischoff, a familiar face on the Vermont music scene, has recently joined the group, adding her driving groove to the intricate designs woven in every song. Growing outward since its inception in 1998, Trystero is a collaboration of songwriters rooted in organic rock and acid jazz who also blend influences of folk, modern classical, and music from India and the South Pacific.
This combination of styles creates an instantly recognizable, signature sound for Trystero that explores the depths of many musical idioms. Every genre touched upon in their songs has been studied extensively, under such notable figures as contemporary jazz master Cyrus Chestnut, guitar guru Matt Smith, and Asian classical composer Su Lian Tan. The immediacy of Trystero’s music stems from the combination of this wide scope of influence with focused, direct songwriting. Listeners can’t help but become absorbed in the beautiful melodies, meaningful lyrics, and telepathic jamming.
Trystero recently released their debut CD, Cape Kidnappers, to accolades from show-going fans, influential producers, and academics alike. Having played concerts in New England and internationally, Trystero is now at work planning an East coast tour for the fall of 2001, as well as a national tour slated for spring 2002.
