The Throttlers began in March, 1998. Originally a 3-piece, the band has since revamped itself with the addition of a second guitarist, Artie Scholes, and a new Drummer in Craig Lee.
The Bands two original members, guitarist Paul Krowas and bassist/lead throat Mike Farren have used the last several years to really arrive on a sound truly their own. Mixing their influences of classic bluesy hard rock and r&b with the pure agression of punk rock, the band is only now beginning to explore their music they're capable of.
Over the last four years, the band, originally named Johnny Black and the Assassins has released two self produced albums, 1998's 'Music to Kill By'(Buck-a-Bullet) and 1999's 'Goin' to Durango'(Buck-a-Bullet). They also made an appearance on the TeePee/Caroline Records compilation 'A Fistful of Rock and Roll' Vol 3. In addition the band has appeared numerous times on Kansas City's 90.1 KKFI Country Jesus and Hillbilly Blues Show, as well as Lawrence Kansas' 90.7 KJHK. Over the years The Throttlers have performed with bands such as: The Hellbenders, The CandySnatchers, Supagroup, Cretin 66, The Weird Love Makers, The Beautys, Swampass, Dillinger 4, Citizen Fish, GC5, Kosher and The Trip Daddies to name a few.
2001 saw the departure of the bands original drummer, as well as the retirement of their former marquee. Just as well it saw the addition of two new members resulting in a powerful new lineup. At the time of this writing, the band is in the studio writing and recording material for a new LP, as well as a contribution to the TurboNegro tribute album, 'Alpha MutherFuckers' Vol. 2(BitzCore). The band plans on playing out frequently both locally and abroad in 2002.
