The Smoothing Constant was formed in October of 2003. Two members had played in bands in high schoold together. They stayed close and decided to give the music show one more try. They auditioned for a drummer and bass player, finding a drummer in October. The bass player followed in July of 2004. The music cannot be 'pigeon-holed' and the comparisons are numerous as to who we sound like. Kind of just the way we like it. Our idea IS to be original and put some music out there that will be appreciated and entertaining.
The Smoothing Constant consists of Cheyenne Briden on vocals. Greg Couto on Guitar, Jeff Mehrmanesh on Guitar, Dan Fisher on Bass and Marc Tiberiis on drums. Ages range from early 20's to 42. each member has various cover/original band experience and some have formal musical training. Our influences are diverse - to say the least. But the diversity helps us to create more than just the standard 'radio friendly/money making' (whoever said music was about money???) sound. But not so far off the beaten path that you go 'huh' after hearing us.....well maybe a song or two.
The first three menbers braved many an open mic night at The Call in downtown Providence. We actually secured a gig offering - if only we had a bass player. We persisted at the open mic nights and once we had our bassist we played quite a few shows between the Century Lounge and The Call. Original band clubs are few in the area. But we have found a few places to plug away at our craft. True we have played to a few lonely souls and near packed clubs. We always try to put forth the same energy and quality in playing for 1 or 100. We will be heading into the studio in September of 2005. We hope to expand the locales we play at in and out of state
