The Green Gold Groove was the brainchild of guitarist and mandolin player Spencer Kelley, and guitarist and vocalist Ethan West. First meeting in the basement of Spencer's house, the two found a common musical ground somewhere between Fleetwood Mac and Widespread Panic. They soon developed a tone all their own, using two guitars harmoniously instead of the simple layering of chords.
Two longtime friends, bassist Tim Bolger and drummer Jon Paquette were the obvious choices for the rhythm section, rounding out the group with a funk- driven approach to music. The group moved its base of operation to Jon’s shed, where privacy and good acoustics were plentiful. But by the end of the summer of 2003, it became clear that a second vocalist was needed. Classically trained singer Andrea Tomassi was the first choice, bringing with her soaring and well- developed leads and soft but tight harmonies.
The Green Gold Groove spent most of the fall and winter of 2003 writing and recording new songs with musician/producer Clint Bierman, who helped to tighten the arrangements and refine their style. The Green Gold Groove is currently making their entry into the Vermont and New England music scene, sharing the stage with acts like The Grift. With a play-anywhere attitude and three track demo fueling their charge, keep an eye out for the GGG at a house party, pizza cellar, dining hall, coffee house, hallway, stairwell, or street corner near you!
