The Brother Project was formed in 1996 after Lead Guitarist Tim Gerland and Rhythm Guitarist Mike Koerner had been performing as an acoustic duo in coffeehouses around the Buffalo, New York area. They soon brought in Tim's brother Jay Gerland to play Drums and Percussion and then Chris Gangarossa, from Diamond Head Crater, California, to play Bass Guitar, and began creating their own brand of Improvisational Rock and Roll.
For almost two years, The Brother Project performed across Western New York as a four-piece group, recording 13 original songs in the studio. The first six were released as the cassette 'Brother'; another six-song cassette was released as 'The Brother Project.' Both cassettes are now out of print. The single 'Waiting For Thomas To Call' was recorded and released on the 'MLR-1' compilation from Mary's Lounge Records. All of these recordings received considerable acclaim, especially their latest single, 'Thomas,' with their live shows being performed in front of bigger and bigger crowds including the band's patented all-night sets.
In their first year together, The Brother Project was nominated as 'Best New Original Band' for the Buffalo Music Awards. In 1998, The Brother Project was nominated as 'Best Live Band' for the WBNY 91.3fm Local Music Awards and was chosen to perform at Buffalo's Original Music Blast. The Brother Project has opened for many successful regional acts and recording artists including From Good Homes, Jiggle The Handle and Schleigho, in addition to performing their all-night sets no fewer than 3 nights a month for the last 3 years.
On October 15, 1998, The Brother Project introduced Scott Molloy on the Keyboards and Hammond Organ as the latest member of the band. As a five-piece group, The Brother Project is ready to take their style of 'Jam' music to new places and new people.
