The Becky Chace Band
Band Biography

  • From: Providence, RI
  • No. of Members: 4
  • Years Together: 1

Every once in while, you come across music that resonates with power and passion. The lyrics may paint an eerily familiar picture, the sound may swim around endlessly in your head and you might find yourself replaying songs over and over. Such is the case with The Becky Chace Band, a four-piece group forged in the great tradition of song-driven acoustic rock. Fronted by lead singer and acoustic guitar player Becky Chace, the band has found a niche for itself in today’s crowded rock music scene with its striking songs and tight musicianship

Like many of today's successful bands, The Becky Chace Band cannot be pigeonholed into any one particular musical category. Their eclectic sound is an exceptional blend of blues and acoustic folk/rock with touches of country. Although they’ve only been together since 1998, the four talented and experienced musicians play like a band that has been together for many years.

Before assembling the band, Becky had already begun to make a name for herself. After graduating from URI in 1998, she was asked to play in the Songwriter’s Showcase at the Newport Folk Festival, where many of her idols – including Melissa Etheridge and Bonnie Raitt – had graced the stage before her. Becky has just released her first CD, 'Play Me,' on the independent BooMooBel Records. Surprisingly strong for a debut effort, this 12-song disc is distinguished by its acoustic guitar-driven sound, poignant lyrics, and Becky’s stunning vocals. All of the CD’s songs are Becky Chace originals.

Although only 23, Becky writes songs with a maturity and sophistication that belie her age. From the spurned lover who says 'I’ll try not to need again …but I still extend my hand/while you move onto the next/I might not be the same again' in 'You Asked' to the stark beauty of the title track, Becky displays her knack for communicating themes both personal and universal. Similarly, 'The Wait' asks '…don’t you think it’s sad to die for love?' and features an acoustic riff that will stick in your head for weeks. And, in the up-tempo, latin-tinged 'Black Cat,' Becky gets a helping hand from the horn players of Popgun to flesh out this song about infidelity, black cats, broken mirrors, and revenge. In addition to Becky Chace, the band also consists of lead guitarist Brian Minisce (formerly of Anatomical Snuff Box) and a rhythm section of Lisa Annunziata (from Spray Paint Prophecy) on bass and Carrie 'Stick Chick' Johnson (from Unless) on the drums.
