The Alan Thornton Band is the brain child of founder, Alan Thornton. Alan had a vision to create a band, not of proven individuals, but rather of proven freinds. The basic concept was to eliminate some of the drama and instability that had cut short the dreams and ambitions of previous bands the members had been with. The goal was to create a band out of life long freinds, and make it a stellar band through a vigorous gig schedule. Together they reached their 40th performance in under 10 months from the time they started practicing together.
Band members are Alan Thornton on guitar and vocals, Jeremy Espinoza on bass, Kyllan Winkler on drums, and the legendary William Guy, best known in the Chicago Blues scene as Bill Guy the Piano guy, on keys. Alan, Jeremy, and Kyllan had all been experienced in rock and blues bands over the past 10 years. William, the senior member, has over 35 years of experience in blues, ranging from Mississippi to Texas to Chicago and many places between.
Starting out with the blues seemed to make the most sense, and they shortly had a mix of standards in the bag ranging from Texas to Chicago sounds. They are in the process of recording thier first album, which has a range of sounds from contemporary balads, to blues, to more high energy funk infused rock. Dispite their range in style, they always give off the same neo-classicist air of sophistication surging from classic Hammond organ and reverb heavy guitar helping to define thier throwback tone.
Yet to complete thier first year together, this band has made steady and impressive progress. Currently they are on track to have played well over 50 shows and have an album recorded, packaged and ready for sale by the end of their first year. Having started out playing locally in Elhart Indiana the band has started to expand to other areas in Michigan and Illinois. The end goal will be an ambitious national tour in support of thier album, slated to start in late 2006 or early 2007.
