Synthetic Elements is a Punk-Ska band that was formed in early 2001 in Ft. Morgan, Colorado by Todd McMullan and Kyle Hernandez. (Ska music is originally from Jamaica, was a predecessor to Reggae, and has taken a harder “punk” edge in its latest incarnation). The band plays music that can be classified as “third wave Ska”. They have a unique Pop-Punk-Ska sound with good variety and could be compared to Less Than Jake, Mustard Plug, Reel Big Fish, or Suicide Machines.
The band plays many local venues (Colorado) and makes frequent trips into Utah, New Mexico, and Texas. They also play in Las Vegas, Montana, and California on occasion. They have opened for some well known Ska bands such as The Slackers and The Skatalites.
Currently the band has two CD’s independently released. The first, “Straight from Skanktown”, was released in February of 2002 with 10 original songs. The second, “Out of Order”, was released in May of 2003 and has 13 original songs. The band continues to write new music and has enough material to record a third CD, which will begin in the near future.
Most of the bands music is original with about 35 of their own songs in their current play list. They also play some covers of songs by other Ska bands, and some classic songs arranged in a Ska style.
