Stroker Ace has only been playing live in their hometown of Detroit since November of 2000. Since then the indie punk rock trio has been labeled as a fun new band and a workhorse on the local scene. Without much experience playing in bands, bassist Jackie O dove headfirst into the songwriting aspect of the band with guitarist Melody Licious (also of the Gore Gore Girls, and formerly, Broadzilla and Rainbow Striptease). In April of 2000 the two 21-year old girls found another musical cohort in Sarah Ziedan. The band seemed well on their way until June 30, 2000 when Ziedan’s life was tragically cut short by a car crash just four days after her 23rd birthday.
But Licious and O ventured on, quickly teaming up with Dougie Tangent (Multi-Grain, the Consolation Prize) and after a few short months were ready to rock out live in Detroit City. In less than four months Stroker Ace managed to weasel their way onto the pages of most local music rags, record a demo and nab the opening slot on nearly every rock show of moderate importance in town, not to mention a killer show on a cold Tuesday night in Ft. Wayne Indiana.
Presently, Stroker Ace is working on material for a CD release. The band will start recording with the celebrated Jim Diamond (White Stripes, the GO, Slumber Party) in June.
