Someone's Sister
Band Biography

  • From: Greenville, NC
  • No. of Members: 2
  • Year Established: 1998

The new sound of 'Someone's Sister' is getting out as Georgia Winfree and Katherine Jones release their début album 'Hand Me Downs'. This musical pair provides the perfect blending of rock and folk as each artist lends her own life experience to create music unlike any other. Winfree and Jones met in 1994 while going to college. It was not until 2002 that they began to pool their musical resources. Winfree and Jones believe that although each of us is different, we are all part of a family- someone's daughter, neighbor or sister- thus 'Someone's Sister'. Since their collaboration, they have played several venues across eastern North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina. In 2003, they began work on their first CD, 'Hand Me Downs', which was released in October of 2004. The combination of these two voices always leaves the audience wanting more.. And with the release of the new CD they won't be disappointed!

Georgia Winfree: Known for her revealing lyrics and casual vocal style, Georgia Winfree often can be found entertaining a crowd. From a coffee house to a smoky late night pub, her ability to woo an audience is something to see. Once you have witnessed her charisma and experienced the soul that she so freely shares through music, you will never leave her show feeling like a stranger. Georgia began her musical journey at the age of twelve. Born in Corning, NY, Georgia was surrounded by a creative family. Her childhood dream was to learn to play the steel guitar, which was a regular sound in her daily life. Her more recent musical influences come from talents such as Annette Warner, whose comforting presence on stage, invites the listener while setting them at ease. Georgia has also found inspiration from the life-altering lyrics of The Indigo Girls' Emily Saliers. Georgia has embraced many artistic mediums along with her music, such as painting, wire sculpting, writing. anything that provides her freedom of expression. Through her music, Georgia reveals her story, offering the listener a peek through the window of her life. Her inward search for understanding over the years has produced both melody and verse. Throughout her creative evolution and many personal transformations, Georgia's greatest thirst has been to provide awareness and hope for an audience who comes with an open mind as well as an open heart. Now living in Greenville, NC and working in commercial media, Georgia is hard at work on her first CD. Scheduled for release in 2004, her CD project is being produced and engineered by Karen Kane. It is only a matter of time before Georgia's sound will reach out to change the lives of many and offer pleasure to all.

Katherine Jones: A single word describes her voice: pure. Now a member of the duo, 'Someone's Sister', Katherine Jones has finally found her musical freedom of expression. Katherine isn't afraid to push the limits of traditional acoustic style to forge her own artistic language. As she delivers her message, her audience is held by her vocal clarity. Katherine's love for music began in her youth. She was often publicly recognized for her vocal and theatrical performances around her hometown of Raleigh, NC. It wasn't until November of 2002 that she found musical independence playing guitar and writing her own music. Katherine's musical partner, Georgia Winfree, was the first to put a guitar into her hands. Since that day Katherine has looked to Georgia as well as other great artists such as Kristen Hall while developing her own creative voice. Katherine's music, like her life, is an energy in progress that is constantly evolving both artistically and emotionally. Her personal creativity has been the result of human connection, loss, and ultimately reflection. Her musical purpose has been the expression of her passage and her desire to create something identifiable, allowing personal life experiences to touch others. Taking on the new role of songwriter, Katherine hopes to take her audience on a musical journey that will lead them to personal understanding and growth. Now living in Greenville, NC and working in the medical field, Katherine is eager to complete work on the duo's first CD. Targeted for release in 2004, the project is being produced and engineered by Karen Kane. With Katherine's sincere lyrics and peaceful style be ready to be pulled into one woman's discovery of life and love.
