Scarecrow Messiah is a vergence of hard rock, nu-metal, and progressive melodic rock styles, while in the process, retaining the great pop and arena rock sensibilities of the past. We are pushing to blur the boundries between the new sounding metal, classic AOR pop, and classic progressive rock. Where we differ from that scene is our use of pop songwriting format (instantly recognizable hooks, choruses, and, song structure), a penchant for tightly woven, interlocking guitar and bass parts (combined with rock solid drumming), and our use of both the 'metal scream', and three part harmony. Our songs are expansive in their lyrical qualities, thought provoking and emotional. They encompass a range of emotions that transend most modern hard rock and metal music. They are designed to draw you in, make you think, and make you feel how we feel, when we perform these songs.
Scarecrow Messiah is 5 very talented musicians who found they had an incredible musical (and personal) empathy...Chuck Freise - Lead Vocals.... Chuck is an expansive and emotional vocalist, who channels the vocal stylings of singers such as: David Draiman, Sully Erna, Jonathan Davis, Aaron Lewis, and James Hetfeild. His delivery is one of both modern metal scream, and introspective, emotional outpouring of his soul....Andrew Schultz - Guitarist.... Andrew (or 'Andy' as we call him) is an incredible talent on his chosen instrument. He takes his tone and technique to new heights every time he picks up the guitar. His is the classic metal tone: thick, crunchy, and powerful. His tone and approach to the instrument perfectly complements his co-guitarist. His natural musical gifts, and listening skills, make him a great asset to Scarecrow Messiah's overall sound.... Nels Gross - Drums and Vocals....Nels comes from a long musical tradition within his family. His father (an accomplished drummer himself)started him out on drums at 5 years old. As a consequence, in the 17 years that he has played the drums (among other instruments: he also is an accomplished vocalist, and pretty decent self-taught guitarist), he has amassed an incredible diversity of styles and grooves that he can play. His talent is such that he can both play these grooves, and sing harmony vocals at the same time with ease. Some of his greatest influences have come from the progressive metal, and progressive rock arenas: bands such as Genisis, Dream Theater, Yes, and Rush, are counted as some of his faves...and he demonstrates his familiarity with those bands, while retaining his own personal style, within Scarecrow Messiah's music, at every turn....Mike Conley - Bass....Inspired by his brother, he was inexorably drawn to the bass as his chosen instrument. Some would say the bass chose him, not the other way around... Mike is a study in perfectionism, taking his role as 1/2 of Scarecrow Messiah's rhythmic powerhouse very seriously. His attention to his tone is as important to him as his dedication to perfecting his own unique style. Armed with only one bass, he can play styles as diverse as the music of Primus, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, System of a Down, and the Guano Apes, with passion and conviction....Robert Fowler - Guitarist and Vocalist....Robert is a guitarist, vocalist, writer, arranger, solo recording artist, and studio 'rat' of considerable experience. As a guitarist of many years (longer than he'd like to admit sometimes), he has logged countless hours of both stage and studio time, along the way defining a highly individual style of music composition and playing. He counts among his influences, music as diverse as Steely Dan, Rush, KingsX, Eric Johnson, Carlos Santana, Chick Corea, The Dregs, and Chicago. A unique perspective of counterpoint rhythem, harmonic diversity, and thematic developement has ensued, allowing him the ability to transend the normal role of guitarist, and become the musician he is today. He is also the owner of 'FlightPath Studios' (Des Moines, WA, USA.), where he co-conceived, wrote, recorded, and produced Scarecrow Messiah's debut CD.
In closing, we invite all fans of rock and roll (in all it's many forms), to help us take the next step in 'Rock's' musical (and emotional) evolution...and to support live music wherever (and whenever) it is performed... As it has been said ' All the World's indeed a stage, and We are merely players' (piert). We must play, we must perform to our highest level, we must convey our hope, dreams, fears, and loves... We must be all that is: Scarecrow Messiah
