Sado Nation
Band Biography

  • From: Portland, OR
  • No. of Members: 4
  • Year Established: 1978

In 1978 Sado-Nation was formed by David Corboy in Portland, Oregon. The sadistic nature of the nation's leaders, and the people who let themselves be guided into a soul-less commercial society, was the inspiration for this new band's name. The music would reflect the disgust Corboy felt for these people and their greed driven culture.

The year 1977 saw the Sex Pistols break onto the scene. A small group of individuals had been waiting for an event such as this to happen. A few bands quickly picked up on the energy and angst that the Pistols had exibited in their music. This was the birth of the Punk Rock scene in Portland, Oregon. It was also the year Corboy graduated from art school.Mark Sten, John Shirley and a few others began putting shows on around town. It was at one of these shows that Corboy saw Shirley perform . It was the band Terror Wrist. This band broke up and John started a group called, The Monitors. Shirley and Corboy both worked for the Oregonian, Portland's daily newspaper. Corboy approached John at work one day and inquired if he would be interested in hearing some songs that Corboy had written.

Mish Bondage became the final singer for Sado-Nation in 1982. She is an important lyricist for the band. Her powerful stage presence thrills and frightens audiences - male and female alike. She was recruited from the all female band, The Braphsmears, and had been singing and writing songs for a number of years. Prior to Mish joining, Corboy had been the main writing force for Sado-Nation. Mish contributed to his writing by adding lyrics to the musical compositions that he had written before she joined. Mish Bondage continues to be a powerful singer and performer - her stage presence is commanding. She is famous for her prowling movements across the stage as she spits out lyrics. Such was her angst during live performance, that she was named female vocalist of the year by Flipside magazine around 1984.

Mish and David Corboy began to talk about reuniting Sado-Nation as interest began to stir internationally in their music. Corboy was approached to headline a Legends of Portland Punk show in January of 2001. As more interest perked about Sado-Nation's activities, Mish and Corboy teamed up and began work on both new material and reissues. They continue to perform today.
