In the year 2001, Drummer Charlie Phan and Guitarist Tim Gleaves came together by a chance email. Bassist John Goodrich soon joined in and the writing process began. Damond Jiniya, formerly of Savatage, filled in as lead vocalist for three headlining shows; including the final night of a popular metal club. In April 2004, they booked a show to do a live vocalist audition. Shadows Of Light performed with several vocalist but still did not find the right one. During the show, 4Fourty Bassist Craig Alspaugh joined them on stage, which was a preview of what was soon to come. A ray of light appeared in September of 2004 when long time friend Michael Ashley of Medicine Mann stepped in as lead vocalist. Within a week Michael had lyrics for all of their songs. Michael's lyrics bonded with the music and formed something powerful. In December of 2004, they began the long process of recording the first album 'Let Their Be Light'. The band spent 3 months tracking the album and soon began mixing and post-production. In March of 2005, John Goodrich stepped down and Craig Alspaugh became the new bassist for Shadows Of Light and brought with him a new level of style and influence. The band has developed a heavy, powerful, and melodic sound that can fit into radio format. The band unveiled the completed completed lineup March 24th, 2005 on live college television.
Shadows Of Light is Michael Ashley on vocals, Tim Gleaves on guitar / backing vocals, Craig Alspaugh on bass, and Charlie Phan on drums and backing vocals.
Shadows Of Light blends a mixture of old and new influences to form a fresh new sound. The band uses alternate tunings (C standard and B) to portrait a deep dark sound that reflects the emotional and powerful lyrics from Michael Ashley. The band has a melodic sense that is reminicent of rock and metal of the past with a cutting edge sound that can fit into any modern rock radio format. The band will release their debut album 'LET THERE BE LIGHT' on July 23 2005 and tour late summer and fall to promote it
