Rufus Grove hails from the misty mountains of western North Carolina and has carved out a niche in the regional music scene. Creating a unique style that draws from modern forms of music (i.e. electronica, funk, and rock n’ roll), Rufus Grove explores improvisational musical ideas that highlight the strong original songwriting at the core of their performances.
Originating in 1997 in Boone, NC while attending Appalachian State University, Rufus Grove started by playing festivals, clubs, fraternity parties, colleges, and benefits. During this time, the band experimented with live and studio recording. The results of these projects were usually given out to the fans to distribute among themselves. Before long, Rufus Grove had built a strong fanbase by continually touring and performing their original music. The band has performed at over 125 venues in 19 states all over the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest during the past eight years.
In the spring of 2000, Rufus Grove left Boone, NC and moved to Asheville, NC where they began recording their debut album, titled “Sanctuary”. The band hired Dr. Dan Matrazzo to produce the project and chose to record at local Asheville studio Collapseable Recording Studios. A release date will be announced soon. In the beginning of 2004 Rufus Grove was chosen by Artimus Pyle (Lynyrd Skynyrd) to form the core of the Artimus Pyle Band. As Rufus Grove gains more experience and more support, the band continues to improve and refine their high energy peformances for an ever growing fanbase.
Rufus Grove consists of Davidson Wicker on drums, Dorsey Parker on guitar, Jamie Dose on guitar/vocals, Mike Boling on keys, and John Holder on bass.
