PulpWood Smith is a band born and bred in Augusta GA, who have finally molded into a serious rock n roll band over the past year. Molding their own sound from the very distinct and eclectic influences of its' four members, PulpWood has turned into a musical hybrid. Finally, with the lineup comeplete and set in stone, they are set to define themselves.
PulpWood takes its' name from an ex-georgia bulldog football player who was said to be (the next big thing) but unfortunetly could not read, which led to his demise- I am not sure of the whole story, ask the guitar player(who is a major fan) Consisting of Phillip Kearns on guitar and vocals, who comes from a background of the Grateful Dead, and a heavy dose of Dylan and Leonard Cohen among others; David Nickel on bass and vocals, who comes from the music of Neil Young, The Velvet Underground, The Rolling Stones, and country- rock heroes such as Gram Parsons and the Byrds to name a few; Deke Wiggins on guitar whose influence rest heavy on the likes of Pearl Jam and other rocking sounds; and Chris Carrick on the drums who plays like a cross between Stephen Perkins, Jimmy Chaimberlin(sp), and Charlie Watts(if you can imagine that)the stage is set for a brand new sound.
Having written at least 25 originals so far, PulpWood has found their nitch and the songs represent everyones' unique influence. PulpWood is a dynamic band with no frontman that gives every member his chance to shine.
