Popular Genius
Band Biography

  • From: Nashville, TN
  • No. of Members: 4
  • Year Established: 1999

In a world filled with mediocre melodies, and less-than-inspired lyrics, there is more than enough room in the alterna-pop/rock genre for cleverly-crafted songs and grin-inducing wit. This is where Popular Genius comes into the picture. Fueled by Andrew Bissell (vocals, guitar), Scott Van Dusen (guitar), Luke Easterling (bass), and Ryan Stout (drums), Popular Genius gladly accepts the challenge of restoring substance and intergrity to the world of popular music.

Formed in the fall of 1999, Popular Genius has since recorded two full-length albums,'Mannequin'(2000), 'Glittering Generalities' (2001), and is in the process of recording both the third record, and an all-acoustic record.

The Popular Genius sound seems to tap into themes of the late sixties/early seventies, siting such acts as Stevie Wonder & Beach Boy, Brian Wilson, while maintaining a modern/quirky delivery similar to that of Barenaked Ladies and Weezer. Encompasing an impressive array of emotive colors, the music of Popular Genius is able to provoke laughter as easily as it can induce tears.
