'We wanted to speak a message to people, a message of honesty, to show people that our lives had variance above and beyond what is seen and heard, and that it is okay, despite what the culture thinks, to show that variance to the world around us.' (Brian Schwarz, Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist) This is how Minneapolis based rock outfit Pleasant Street Conspiracy began. 'Our music is our honest expression of life, the bad times as well as the good ones. We don't write songs when we've got nothing to say, and we value music that follows this trend.'
Consisting of four members, the band has found its way to many major venues in Minneapolis in less than 5 months of playing, from the Varsity Theater in dinkytown, to Station 4 in St. Paul, to 7th Street Entry downtown. 'Though our band may be new, our skills as musicians are everything but.' Brian Schwarz, lead singer/songwriter and guitarist has been playing music since he was 15 years old. Justin Armstrong, the self-proclaimed 'Drummer', has played with Brian for almost 5 years in two separate bands. Aaron Newland, lead guitarist, tends to remind us of a mixture of Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen. And finally Matt Stafford, bass guitarist, is the proverbial beating heart of the band.
But how do they describe their music? Well, the Emergenza music festival, one of the biggest in the world, had this to say about it. 'They came with a powerful, upbeat, modern rock sound in the vein of 30 Seconds to Mars and My Chemical Romance. Passionate vocals and tight transitions made this band sound a hell of a lot bigger than a 4-piece!' 'I guess overall, we feel like we define the genre of modern rock' says singer/songwriter and guitarist Brian Schwarz. 'There's no other good way to say it. I mean, yes, other things may resemble our music, but I dare anyone to try and define us as anything but indie rock.'
In their new upcoming self titled ep (Coming out in April of 2007), Pleasant Street Conspiracy captures us with moving melodies, striking lyrics, and elegant combinations of harmonic and flowing guitars. Their music leaves us feeling unashamed at the truths of our faults, and our successes. Since the group came together they have been rising quickly in the music world, gaining much local popularity in Minneapolis. Gaining momentum still, you can be sure to expect this band to be on tour across the US soon
