New Orleans Juice
Band Biography

  • From: New Orleans, LA
  • No. of Members: 5
  • Year Established: 1997

Since exploding onto the New Orleans' scene, this quintet(sometimes sextet) has been shaking up audiences with their unique mix ofelastic New Orleans' funk and over the top psychedelic jams. Equally tight and loose, their grooves span the rich musical heritage of The Big Easy: sweaty late night funk, traditional New Orleans' rhythm and blues and secondline, Caribbean flavored jazz, and trippy, psychedelic rock. They put new twists on time honored styles, staying true to the roots while looking forward into the new millennium. Known for their penchant to take musical chances, their live act has garnered well deserved attention as something that is unique unto themselves.

Aron Lambert - Drummer A lifelong resident of New Orleans', Aron's musical pedigree runs deep. His family opened the world famous Preservation Hall and as a child he was taught by N.O.'s jazz patriarch Walter Payton (father of Grammy award winning trumpeter Nicholas Payton). He later studied with the Neville Brothers funkmaster 'Mean' Willie Green, as well as esteemed jazz drummer Shannon Powell (Harry Connick, Jr.). In 1993, Aron relocated to Nashville where he proved his chops as a session man in various R&B, Funk, Rock and modern Jazz groups. He returned to New Orleans in 1998 to 'get back to the funk' that he grew up on. He has shared the stage with such notables as Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), Daryl Dybka (Frank Zappa), Widespread Panic, George Porter, Bill Summers, N.O. Klezmer All-Stars, The Olympia Brass Band, and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Jason 'Special Man' Sellers - Saxaphone Upon joining Juice in December of 1998, 'The Special Man' has been turning heads with his tenor. An accomplished jazzman, Jason has a degree from the prestigious University of New Orleans Jazz Studies Program where he studied under the tutelage of Ellis Marsalis, Victor Goines, Eric Traub and Ed Petersen, among others. He has shared the stage with such young jazz phenoms as Nicholas Payton, Wes Anderson, Irvin Mayfield, Stanton Moore (Galactic) and Quintology. Besides playing with Juice, Jason works in a myriad of side projects, including fronting his own jazz quintet. Jason's quintet, featuring some of U.N.O.'s finest young players, finished recording a limited edition CD in the spring of '99. Chris Nolte - Guitar Originally hailing from Key West, Florida, the newest Juice member was raised on Blues, Jazz and Funk (his father plays guitar and saxophone). At 18, he first cut his chops with New Orleans voodoo-blues legend Coco Robicheaux. Before transplanting to The Big Easy, he spent his college years at Florida State University, where he studied under former Sly & The Family Stone drummer Rick Holly and guitar master Carlos Barrientos. His explosive style is equally technical and soulful, and it's enabled him to share the stage with such diverse acts as the P-Funk Horns, piano legend Diz Watson and young guitar hero (now an Allman Brother) Derek Trucks. David Jordan - Bass, Vocals Dave founded the group in late 1995 with the musical intention of mixing the heavy rhythmic groove of groups like The Meters and Sly & The Family Stone, with the group improvisation of bands such as the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers. His first band, Hoppergrass, made an immediate impact on the Baton Rouge music scene in the early/mid '90's by sharing the bill with such notables as Widespread Panic, George Porter, Merl Saunders, The Aquarium Rescue Unit and The Samples, to name a few. He has also shared the bill with bluegrass greats Peter Rowan, Blueground Undergrass and The Larry Keel Experience. He developed his style by seeing and studying George Porter, Jr. literally 100+ times over the past decade. He is also a free-lance writer who has done features on Cyril Neville and George Porter, among others. Jamie 'Bone' Galloway A long time collaborator with Dave, Jamie has been around since the Hoppergrass days. Since moving to New Orleans in the mid '90's, 'Bone' has jammed with a long list of New Orleans notables- George Porter, Galactic, Bill Summers, Iris May Tango, Brint Anderson, Sunpie Barnes and many more. Known for his diversity and his ability to use the harmonica more like a member of a horn section rather than strictly a solo instrument, he's equally adept with Blues, Jazz, Funk, Latin or Rock. He recently had the honor of recording with legendary percussionist Bill Summers (of Herbie Hancock's Headhunters & Los Hombres Calientes) for an upcoming solo album. He is also an accomplished chef who has worked at acclaimed New Orleans' restaurants Commanders Palace & Jacque-Imo's. A LA JUICE!!!

New Orleans Juice performed over 280 shows nationwide in 2000 and will break this schedule in 2001 playing to packed, sold out venues across the country. Juice has recently been featured in Billboard Magazine, An Honest Tune, JamBase Featured artist as well as many wonderful national magazines and papers coast to coast. Juice one best emerging Funk, Soul, R&B band in Louisiana. Come see them live to witness the band's original sound and marathon shows.
