Traditional wisdom recommends writing music from the heart. Nathan Mayberry, however, tends to write from the gut, closer to the groin. In 2003 alone, Nathan won Z93’s songwriter showcase, qualified for the finals of Georgia Music Industry Association’s songwriter contest and recorded his first demo. To top the year off, he won the prestigious $1000 Eddie's Attic Shootout in Decatur, GA. Previous winners of this contest include Bain Maddox and Jennifer Daniels.
The son of a preacher and a teacher, Nathan was raised in rural North Carolina and began performing at venues such as the Cat’s Cradle in Chapel Hill. His folk songwriter style gained him opening slots with Agents of Good Root and the Blue Dogs. After graduating college, Nathan headed for Ireland where he performed in the streets of Dublin for handouts. Lack of sun and support drove him back to the US in 2001. Returning to the south, Nathan moved to Atlanta where his songwriting career found a home.
