Mindgrind started out in late 1997 and since that time has grown into the band of today. Humble attitudes and willingness to push through issues in songwriting has created a truly unique style and sound that that is unmistakably Mindgrind. This band sounds better in person than on their one take demo. But hey, that demo has been played on 107.7 the Fox radio for the last two years.
Mindgrind consists of Shane Whitford on the mic, Tee Groover on guitars, Brent Whitford on bass and Brad Lane on drums. I can’t say there is any formal training other than high school music programs, but when I was in the high school band, the director stressed “play your instruments.” Well these gentlemen did just that. It’s a cliché but several hours a day is the vehicle these men used to create a sound that has become an identity.
In late October 2003, Brad Lane joined the band and learned a couple dozen songs for an outdoor gig scheduled in November. The show went great on that twenty degree night.Mindgrind now had to begin writing with its newest member and blend the sound into something they were happy with. They did just that, 7 new and unique songs were finished over the next two months. They played the first gig that June and once a month revisit the club. Meanwhile Quantum Communications were preparing to host a battle of the bands, Mindgrind entered, and to the chants of Mindgrind over the announcer, won the seven week event. The Fox radio has an all request 2 hour “Lunchbox,” Mindgrind has been played over a hundred times and is frequently requested every week. Mindgrind has played dozens of venues and built a good following that club owners know its going to be a great night. Ask them!
Mindgrind has a couple of venues it plays every six weeks. We have left the schedule relatively open to accommodate some new venues further away. There is no doubt we can build a fan base anywhere given the opportunity. Our website has undergone some recent changes with the addition of a new message board forcing our members to create new identities, but it’s a far better board. The book we pass around at shows to obtain info on our fans has grown to over three hundred names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. We send out emails and flyers promoting each show and contact by phone key members who come with crowds of five or more if possible. Due to our longstanding relationship and support of 107.7 the Fox, our shows are announced on the air several times during the week of the show.
