Mcpherson
Band Biography

  • From: Burlington, VT
  • No. of Members: 1
  • Year Established: 2004

Hailing from Burlington, VT - a town slated to be the next big indie scene in the 1980's, Mcpherson was first introduced to the variety of music styles abound. Back when the scene was vibrant and filled with bands of varied styles and backgrounds, Burlington was starting to be the new 'get signed' town in music. 'Like Athens, GA or Seattle, we were getting record labels here to find new acts.', Mcpherson explains. The local scene was growing , until the drinking age was nationally raised. 'It killed off lots of bars and venues I guess,... I was a kid at the time.' Breaking out in the post punk influenced town, he formed and headed up the local act negative vibe merchants (named for the British TV show The Young Ones). NVM lasted for several years, causingsome buzz in the local area due to their excessive and drunken stunts. 'We were just little pricks, having fun...' he reminisces. That continued until forming Army of the Twelve monkeys (who had a successful undergroundhit 'Light turns on'), Mcpherson's songwriting and playing got more edgy and musically refined. Mcpherson has now revised the surf, punk reggae rock sound that clearly reflects his eighties influences. He's now gone beyond standard band songwriting by playing all the instruments on hissolo debut CD single, Jones'. The song has proven to be an internet favorite so far, gainingSome industry attention. Mcpherson is currently working on an EP, as the single was originally intended for the music industry and friends, 'It was just supposed to show some people a peek at the EP that I was working on, but I decided to throw it on the internet so it would easier to get, and it started getting passed around by people and word of mouth.' The EP will be out in 'a couple of months', I'm told, and I'm sure it will well worth keeping in my CD player for quite some time. - Sara Sumner(reprinted with permission)
