Maximum Headlessness was formed in a run down efficiency apartment in downtown Fairmont, WV by Jett Bailes (a.k.a. Jett Strange). Without cable, phone, and sometimes heat, the young artist began creating a world of quirky sounds meshed with honest to god 'balls out geek rock'. 'Beside my Playstation 2 and drawing, Maximum Headlessness was the warped, mutant angel that kept me from slipping helplessly into a state of slobbering, mind blowing depression caused from boredom! I was close to starting my career in Fairmont as a schizophrenic street preacher.' After creating a rough demo of 5 songs recorded on Goldwave (the 'windows paint' of computer recording programs)Jett and loyal artist friends, Mike Kulina, Stosh Bubnowski and Brock Wilson (latter two of straight edge hardcore band, XAbsolute PowerX) started weekly practices as an established garage band.
Live, the band comes equipped with a home PC being used as an instrument, playing audio clips and samples and such. The rest of the band is your standard electro band setup, metal style drums, Jett sings and plays guitar while Stosh plays the bass. 'We have a hard time keeping drummers. they say it's weird and hard to catch on to. Our original drummer, Brock, joined the navy. Our last drummer was in 4 other bands, he had to quit. We're thinking of hiring a drum machine, but god only knows the excuses HE'LL come up with!' The music of MH goes like this; '...well, generally, first you have the noise tracks with a loop of something like a sample of some stupid movie over various beeps and blips sounding like robots or machines, then you get some weird unnattractive kindergarten entry level guitar riff that ends up exploding into utter nonsense with keyboard noises, atari music, donkey konging drums and loud obnoxious rock riffs with me yelling like someone who got ants poured into the crotch of their pants all at once, then back to the kindergarten guitar riff......oh, and more ridiculous movie samples'
'Growing up, i listened to Weezer, Nirvana, The Rentals, Weird AL Yankovich, White Zombie....anything that, to me, was either dangerous or did not fit into any musical standard...and if it pissed my mom and dad off, that helped too. That's what i want with Maximum Headlessness, to put the senseless joyous confusion back into rock and roll, even if it never sells a million records, i'll know i've made something different that i put my heart and soul into'
In 2005,after playing live sets across WV for a couple of months and opening for various out of town acts like The Human Marvels, Maximum Headlessness was picked up by Kansas City's ROIL NOISE music label, and this November the debut self titled cd will be released. 'they are a noise and experimental music label, so we fit RIGHT in, they love us. It's like a big mutant family'. Expect 13 tracks of chaotic, spazzing music that will leave you drooling for more.
