Rock/Pop/Funk band formed in 2004 that is hooked on improvisation when we play live. Our songs evoke many different moods. The album, which was written, performed, and produced entirely by the students of St. Olaf College, includes 3 tracks will full orchestra.
The band consists of Bobby Klein on electric guitar, Matt Johnson on acoustic guitar and vocals, Jeremy Anderson on drums (www.jamusix.com), Chris Bakken on bass, and Joey Kantor on Piano, Rhodes (a REAL Rhodes), and Hammond- all the center of our sound. We are all students or alumni of St. Olaf College, where we all studied music. The band has been formally trained in Jazz and, of course, all of the art music dating up to our present time, and this is reflected in our music, with fusions including rock, funk, pop, jazz, blues, and film music.
It all began as Matt Johnson's solo album project that started in 2003. The band members were brought in as studio musicians and had an instant chemistry. Joey, Chris, and Jeremy played together in St. Olaf's top Jazz band for 2 years, and Bobby had played with Jeremy in a prior musical endeavor called Falling Green.
Matt Johnson Band has played at Minneapolis' most prestigious clubs, such as the Fineline Music Café, and most recently opened for Nickel Creek. There biggest show was their CD release (which they headlined) that drew over 900 people. After Jeremy and Matt get back from a tour to Norway in July, the band will resume giging in the Midwest, and take a short tour that will include Phoenix, Albuquerque, Nashville, and Chicago before returning to Minneapolis.
