Lipid is an alternative-rock band, which was founded in 1998 in central Illinois by songwriter/singer/guitar player Rick Ruth. After performing for friends and getting fantastic feedback over demos he distributed over the internet under the name 'Lipid', Rick soon made his move to the northwest. With the Northwest areas large welcoming music scene, Rick found himself at home and began putting together a band. Through some friends Rick met up with drummer Joe Longfellow. After practicing together for some time, Lipid played their first show at Pilkington Park with a hand-full of songs. With a strong thumbs-up approval from the crowd, Lipid began playing various shows in the Portland area at clubs like 'The Meow Meow', 'Paris Theatre', etc. Although not yet signed to a label, Lipid has been granted quite a following for their unique sound, captivating performances, and the ability to please listeners in various genres of music. Lipid's first recording 'Daily Abductions' is just a sampler into what the band has to offer and judging by the extremely positive reviews, everyone will be hearing of Lipid soon enough.
Lipid recorded their first demo July 21st at No Moving Parts Studio in Portland, which has since then caused quite a stirring in underground music. Chris Cerreta, writer for the Fairfield Music Review, summed up Lipid's new recording by stating, 'The album is rock solid ...Daily Abductions may just be the flying saucer they've been searching for'. From the beautiful acoustic sounds of '1991', to the catchy pop sounds of 'The Story of My Life', all the way to the angry but intelligent rumblings in 'The Village Idiots'. Lipid has been referred to by many as 'intelligent teenage angst', with influential roots stemming from the lyrics of Bad Religion, the in-your-face guitars of Nirvana, Mudhoney, and AC/DC, and the catchy yet passionate rhythms of The Beatles and Weezer.
Lipid's demo recording entitled 'Daily Abductions' is also currently getting radio play on alternative-rock radio stations WAJK-FM 99.3, WBCG-FM 98.3, WMAQ-AM 670, and WLPO-AM 1220 in the Midwest area (Chicago, Aurora, Champaign). WAJK places songs from Daily Abductions on a daily basis, and 'Reject' is highly requested by listeners. WBCG is playing all the tracks on a weekly basis, with 'Detour' and 'Samsara' being played very frequently. The other radio stations play a variety of the songs off the album. An interview and review of Lipid's debut CD was conducted in the December issue of the Fairfield Music Review, in Fairfield, CT. Lipid was also featured on the front page of http://www.onlinerock.com.
June 11th, 2002 Lipid entered the studio and re-recorded the songs 'Samsara' and 'Reject' to submit to record companies and radio stations. They are pro-quality recordings which radio stations are currently reviewing for airplay, we hope you hear them on the radio soon enough. The recordings are available on our website and CD's are available through the band. E-mail lipid@onlinerock.com if you'd like an actual CD.
