Band Biography

  • From: Houston, TX
  • No. of Members: 2
  • Year Established: 1997

Lunatex is the primary creation of veteran Space City producer / DJ Levon Louis. For most shows, studio partner Jaytee joins Levon on stage. Since 1996, Lunatex has appeared across much of the USA, and is respected for keeping it real by never using DAT or CD trickery for live performances. Their live “rave” sets are a playful mix of uplifting hardhouse, ambient trance, and nu-nrg techno, with a deep tribal influence throughout. Vintage b-boy breaks, sci-fi movie clips, native drum, chanting, and even a few classic rock samples polish off a sonic journey which has been labeled, “damn-near perfect as an auditory hallucinogen” by one music critic. Lunatex also performs “dark-rave” music. Levon Louis has been composing and recording music since the age of four. His father’s new-wave band, Z-Rocks, who toured with Duran Duran and U2, exposed Levon to the rock and roll lifestyle at a very young age, the whole experience having a profound influence on his life. Levon was already experimenting with drum machines, tape loops, samplers, and synths by his early teens.

In 1994, Levon attended his first “rave” at a small warehouse in Dallas where he fell in love with the music. It wasn’t very long before he began composing new music influenced by the techno events he attended. On Christmas Eve 1995, Levon met Jaytee Normann at a blues bar. The two hit it off, and Levon was invited to come out and jam with the band Jaytee was playing bass for at the time. The chemistry was undeniable, and before long, the two broke off from the band to form a new project. Their music was an extremely surreal, ambient-noise mix of vinyl and live electronic instruments. Levon and Jaytee played a few events as an ambient act before introducing drum machines into the mix.

In the year 2000, during a period where Lunatex was considering retirement, Ewax records founder and #1 mp3.com artist, 303Infinity, offered to help Lunatex get their first full length CD album distributed nationwide. The new CD, “Abducted”, is due for release on Ewax in 2001 and is a fairly comprehensive electronic journey showcasing the innovation and versatility of Lunatex as a studio artist. The 72-minute continuous album explores the deepest dimensions of trance, techno, breaks, jungle, and ambient-noise. Lunatex is currently touring, headlining raves and club-concert events from coast to coast with a futuristic sound that has people turning on to their vibe. In 2001, Lunatex signed with Bassmint Music for another albums, and is also composing music for several films, and interactive games.

Lunatex has landed, and the bookings are rolling in. For more info you can contact the band directly, as so far they have refused to let anyone outside the project handle their business. Lunatex plans to stay the course as a renegade independent artist, PERFORMING SOME OF THE MOST INNOVATIVE ELECTRONIC MUSIC ANYWHERE!
