Combining a cosmic cowboy vibe with early 70's rhythms, the Kwait Brothers Band (KBB) offers a rich blend of city and country. It's no wonder.... as Rich and Rob Kwait (the principal songwriters) began penning many of their songs while traveling the side roads between Philadelphia, upstate New York and the surrounding countryside.. The KBB has been performing in clubs and festivals primarily in and around Philadelphia and New York in support of both records for the past two years. The band's warm presence and tightness as a unit creates a memorable show. With a collection of over 30 originals, some tasty covers, and some colorful 'cosmic' jams sprinkled throughout, the show takes on a new flavor each night.
In 1998 , after years apart, the brothers (twins) settled back in their hometown of Philadelphia and began recording and producing enough material for two records. The debut CD entitled Hillside, released in 2000, was a return to simple melodic rootsy songwriting and placed the brothers in the company of some of the top songwriters in the Philadelphia region
Outland*Disco, the second album, released in 2002) is a lush, more electric complement to Hillside, offering a mix of songs that are at once catchy and melodic, rootsy and rhythmic. The album found critical acclaim in the local press, AAA radio and several national 'jam band' magazines (Relix, Honest Tune), with the KBB drawing comparisons to seminal groups such as The Band, Buffalo Springfield and the Grateful Dead. The Multi-layered harmonies and Hammond organ arrangements on Outland*Disco capture a sound and feel reminiscent of a classic era, while creating sweet new colors.
The KBB as a live touring band is comprised of 5 musicians: Rob Kwait on bass and vocals; Rich Kwait on guitar and vocals; Ira Race on guitar; Stephan Divincenzo on drums; and Jeanine Reed on vocals and percussion. The band is often accompanied by a special guest keyboardist.Kwait Brothers Band will release its third album and first label release on Woodstock Records in early 2005. It's current 'Cosmic American Blues' tour will end on August 8th at the Newport Folk Festival.
