With a unique sound blending different musical elements, Kidnapped Heiress clearly distinguish themselves from Canada's 'indie' rock sound. The music is textured, the lyrics thought provoking, the composition intelligent, and the grooves just plain rock!
Danny DePoe - Guitar & Vocals Danny DePoe was born and raised in Toronto. In 1994 he earned a scholarship from the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. While there, DePoe, a skilled trumpet player, had the chance to play with various jazz luminaries, yet he majored in Songwriting and Performance. He has studied with lyricist Pat Pattison, and songwriter Henry Gaffney. By his final year, he had also studied songwriting with famed studio musician/songwriter Al Cooper, as well as being tutored in Stage performance with Livingston Taylor, brother of James Taylor. DePoe moved back to Toronto in early 1999, starting 2 bands; an original rock band, Pester and The Danny DePoe Quartet, both of which performed regularly at venues across the city. DePoe also starred in Time After Time: The Chet Baker Project. The show opened in the spring of 2001 to immense acclaim, and then went on to tour Canada in 2003, receiving even greater reviews abroad. While on tour, DePoe began writing the songs that would inspire him to form Kidnapped Heiress.
Tristan Campbell - Bass Tristan 'Sideburns' Campbell, also born and raised in Toronto, began playing music at the ripe age of 12, beginning with Tenor Saxophone. Campbell has always preferred instruments over people, knows a whole lot about knives, is a vehement anti-smoking crusader (except when drunk), a computer whiz, and has affectionately named his bass 'Philip'. His musical experience includes extensive gigging with Pester, as well as a playing bass and samples with The Ronin King. Most of Campbell's musical history revolves around composition and music technology. In the spring of 2000, he received a hefty scholarship to attend Ryerson University in the applied computer science program. Tristan lives with his kitty, curiously, also named 'Philip'.
Misha Barbour - Drums Misha Barbour was born and raised in Toronto. As well as being an accomplished athlete, he studied Violin at the Royal Conservatory of Music. After eight years at the conservatory, he moved on to jazz, playing Tenor Saxophone in various groups. As a drummer he is principally self-taught. Working mostly within Toronto's urban music scene, Barbour has toured and performed extensively in funk, hip-hop, electronic, reggae, and blues outfits, as well as with the exciting rock band Pester. He has worked with acts such as Dylan Murray, D-Sisive, Tomphoolery, Adam 8, as well as with members of God Made Me Funky and Palenke Orchestra. Barbour attends the University of Toronto where he studies literature and philosophy, talks about politics and social justice, demonstrates his ferocious fade-away jump shot, and procrastinates furiously.
