Key was formed by Robbie Manthei And Val Padilla in hopes to bring good,respectable but something different, music to Lubbock TX. The bands that fill the Hub city are mostly Hard rock cover bands, blues bands, country bands, or bands that are only around when school is in session.

Keys three members play infectious and extremely danceable reggae-ska and dub grooves as a traditional three piece would. Taking turns on lead vocals and guitar(they switch off on the bass)are Robbie Manthei and Val Padilla. They have a couple of drummers that trade off show to show, but the main song writers are Robbie and Val. The shows are something you must see to believe. They play reggae but there attitude is totally punk. So theres not a whloe lot of talking in betwween songs, besides the words and the music speak for themselves.

When asked the question they get the most, Why reggae-ska in West Texas?, they say its been more of a spiritual trip than anything else, we think its just time for something new and someone has to have the balls to go out and try to knock down some weeds and pack some dirt to get the road started. Why us? We dont know maybe we read to much into things. We also get asked how we can sing about partying and the crazy life of sex drugs and rock and roll, then turn around and sing about Jah. Simply put, its all about LIVIN, its about putting Jah first and being real, we would really be hipocrites if sung about not doing this stuff, right? Right now thats just how it is.
