Primal. Psychedelic. Organic. Hypnotic. Emotional. Sensory. Rhythmic. With so many adjectives thrown around about Kan'nal, it is easy to see why many say this is an experience beyond description. Although it may be difficult to describe Kan'nal simply with any standard publicist's cliché, it is fair to say that the Kan'nal experience is unlike anything you have witnessed . . . a visual and musical alchemy that transcends the boundaries of the live show and signals the next great evolution in rock music.
The band met and formed in 2001 around the mystical Lake Atitlan located in the high mountains of Guatemala. While building an enormous following in Guatemala, which included two Top 10 radio hits and shows before thousands of people, Kan'nal quickly developed a unique and new approach to modern music. In their brief time together in North America, Kan'nal has already headlined festivals such as the Om Festival in Toronto and the Legends Festival in Austin and toured throughout the Southwestern United States and Mexico.
Driven by a rhythm-heavy wall of tribal sounds highlighted by master hand percussionist Gilly Gonzales, didgeridoo and percussion expert Aaron Jerad, and bassist Rodolfo Escobar, Kan'Nal instantly grabs at your primal core. Up front, Tierro Malloy's prodigious guitar offerings drift from the edges of acoustic virtuosity into the depths of galactic trance, while lead singer and rhythm guitarist Tzol fronts this nomadic rebellion with his spellbinding, soulful voice and poignant lyrics. And that is just the band! To complement this dazzling array of awe-inspiring musicianship, performance artist Teresita leads a revolving tribe of characters in captivating the visual and verbal performance spectrum with everything from dancers, to spoken word, to performance artists that truly makes Kan'nal a multi-sensual event. Kan'Nal is truly a celebration of sight and sound an experience beyond the music. Both lovely and scary, Kan'nal strikes the perfect balance between the psychedelic visual and the sonic explosion. Prepare for the Kan'Nal experience, it will change you.
