Joykamp is an aggressive, hard assed alternative, heavily groove laden juggernuaght of a band. With its intense and intelligent musicianship, along with tight, seasoned performances this award- winning band undeniably administers a full-out, non-stop musical assault with every show. Joykamp is a four- piece band based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, consisting of guitarist Mike Wood, bassist Dave Tull, drummer Colin Harris and fronted by fiery vocalist Rik Kiviaho. The band contributes a combination of hard edge music with deep social and political subject matter.

In January of 2003, the newly formed Joykamp recorded a three song professional demo with producer Larry Anschell (Nickelback, Pearl Jam, Sarah McLachlan, Bif Naked.) at Turtle Recording Studios in White Rock, BC, Canada. As a result, Joykamp unanimously claimed the 1 spot on the coveted Vancouver Seeds 2003 compilation album, which included Nickelback and Default, with their single 'Hypnotized' which reached 89 of the top 100 most requested songs on CFOX that year. Combined with Industry accolades and awards, their immediate success has resulted in radio and television interviews and exclusive television features.

While continuing to write new material, Joykamp has steadily gigged and rehearsed, evolving into a highly polished headline act, well known in the region for delivering intense and outstanding full-length performances, drawing full houses wherever they hit the stage. At present, Joykamp happily remains an independent band and has returned to Turtle Recording Studios with producer Larry Anschell where they have completed their debut full length Independent LP, a concept album, titled 'Fear the Future'. The name “Joykamp” comes from George Orwell’s “1984”, and is where free thinkers were sent to be re-educated.

Joykamp appeals to a diverse group of fans ranging from hardcore punks and old school hard rockers to the political and 'extreme' communities. The band could be perceived as a quite intense, but so will you be once their message has touched you (like a railroad spike in your skull).
