Initially founded by Jeff Preston and Tony Germinario as Faithful Dogs in 1994, the band began its long standing run of shows with performances at Mercury Lounge and The Bitter End in New York City and have been playing clubs and colleges in the Northeast ever since.
The name JEL came about when the group was in the studio mixing their first CD 'jake's toy' in 1997. (No, it wasn't because they wear lot's of crap in their hair). Listening to all the tracks come together for the first time, after countless hours writing and working out the tunes in rehearsals and then planning and producing the recording sessions, the band instantly recognized their unique situation; the odds that four guys with seemingly disparate personalities, opinions and styles could coalesce into one grooving power-pop machine were slim, to say the least. But somehow these guys had turned their differences to their advantage to create a unique sound that blended heavy rock and acoustic pop sounds with melodic hooks and memorable harmonies. The results energized them and gave them a confidence that fuels their success. And the personality differences evolved into close friendships with a nod toward a common goal - the creation of bitchin' new tunes.
The release of their new album 'too much IMAGINATION' marks the next phase of JEL's musical evolution and indie perserverance.
