January Sun has been together since 1995, and have two cds of original music to their credit. They released their debut cd in 1997 entitled 'January Sun'. It contains 8 tracks of straight ahead Drivin' Rock and received very favorable reviews and airplay of the singles 'Bite my lip', and 'Skeletons Dance'. In August of 1999 they gained Wichitas' top Rock honor by winning the T-95 'Battle of the Bands' contest and became the only local band to play the main stage at the T-95 Ozfest, for over 5,000 people at the Kansas Coliseum.
January Sun released their sophomore recording 'Dodge This' in 2000, it features 13 tracks of gritty, groovin', melodic rock and includes the singles 'Break Free' and 'Never look away'. It has recieved airplay in Wichita, Reno Nevada,San Bernardino, Ca., and St. Louis, MO.January Sun has also recieved airplay with 'The Phil & Hank Show Groove', The theme song for the 'Phil & Hank Morning Show' on T-95. (Wichita Rock Radio Station).Their drummer D.A. Van Sickle was replaced by Mike Smith in June of 2001. Mike is a hard hitting drummer and comes to the band with years of experience including playing in various bands in Hollywood & Los Angeles Ca.
They have been a regular on 'Local Band Friday' of Wichitas' Fly 92.7 radio station and On July 13th 2002 they had the honor of performing at the 'Wheatland Jam 2002' among national recording artists, Foghat, Night Ranger,& REO Speedwagon, along with local favorites Shaft,Sarcoma, Pretty Ugly,King Me, and The Groove Gypsies. They've Also been selected three years in a row to perform at the Kansas State Fair,performing on two seperate weekends this year, (2002). In October 2002 they were hand selected by T-95,(Wichitas'leading modern rock radio station), to be one of twelve bands to compete in the Battle of the bands, held at Graham Central Station in Wichita during the month of November. They made it all the way to the finals where they were very narrowly defeated by another local Wichita band.
