JIVA (pronounced jee-vuh) is a DC-based rock band, formed in 1998 and led by guitarist, songwriter and front man Sam Wagner. Sam’s biting guitar riffs, melodic choruses, and powerful vocals fuse with bassist Seth Polansky’s fluid and stark style. These layers counterpoint the thought provoking, but often obscure lyrics. Guitarist Marc Hutzell adds depth, texture and swaps lead guitar with Sam. DJ, on drums, is the driving force of the band, pounding out rhythms and making it just a bit more fun, which is really what JIVA is all about.

JIVA, since its inception, has played many different venues in the PA, MD, VA and DC areas.

JIVA has appeared and been reviewed in several college and local newspapers including the Washington City Paper and, most recently, the Washington Post’s, .mp3 page. With a growing fan base, JIVA’s ready to move on to larger clubs and venues, and some regional tours.
