Invisible Doctors
Band Biography

  • From: Portland, OR
  • No. of Members: 4
  • Year Established: 1999

Invisible Doctors is a contraption built on unbridled enthusiasm. Built out of bits and pieces, they scramble the miscellaneous into a muted, all original flame-thrower, talkin'

The flavor of the year seems to be white boy jazz/funk - while the Drs don't deny they've been into the ether in the ER, they defy this categorization. How? They don't ride the easy Rhodes; don't do what they're told. At an Invisible Doctors show, you'll hear the easy groove of a funky shuffle, followed by a 6-part Latin/Rock/Fusion dissident stew. But you'll still be shufflin' cause that’s what the doctors ordered.

Keyboardist Nate Cronin (also a member of 5 Fingers of Funk) layers on the B3, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, and Mini-moog with all the smooth salve you could possibly hope for, but he's got a trailer full of firecrackers ala Robert Walter and Jimmy Smith. Guitarist Chris Hannemann and his bag of tricks form an often-ambient layer of floating lubricant designed to ease the pain of the operation. The music can also be defined by its roots. Drummer Dan Eckis and bassist Lawrence Gallick have been playing together for 15 years (Good Couch most recently), and bring into this sordid stew a punk/indie rock history (Minutemen, Dinosaur Jr., Gone, Meat Puppets, Tar Babies). But Invisible Doctors takes these roots and tosses them in a salad with a sense of the groove gleaned from the soulful machinations of Herbie Hancock, Headhunters, Curtis Mayfield, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard.... then throw in some Phish, Radiohead, Pavement, Tortoise, UI, Heroic Doses, MMW, Built to Spill to name just a few.

With over 3+ hours of original material the doctors can satisfy any musical hunger. Come see ID and walk away with 2 very tired feet, and a pair of extremely satisfied ears.
