Hey Gringo is an original Retro/Blues/RnB Combo from Melbourne, Australia led by multi instrumentalist/songwriter Daryl Roberts on keyboards, harmonica, mandolin, acordian, guitar & vocals. The band has included many well known Australian music identities over the years, many included on the debut album I WAS THERE released in 2000.
Hey Gringo is original rootsy based retro Blues/RnB with a tongue in cheek delivery and an extremely varied sound, so audiences never get bored. The current line-up includes Daryl, Paul Gadsby on (Guitar,Bass & Vocals), Les Oldman on Drums & Vocals and David Williamson on Sax & Vocals. Their sound is beefy and full with punchy keyboards and guitar backed with funky horns over a goovin rhythm section.
Hey Gringo has been getting heaps of airplay and rave reviews around Australia and as far as Argentina and is looking forward to getting some exposure in other countries such as the U.S.A. A new album being recorded in February 2003 will include some highly regarded Australia guest artists. Building on the success of their first album and the live performances, Hey Gringo is looking ahead big time to 2003.
Original music is 99% of Hey Gringo's material mainly written by Daryl Roberts(performed with Blues legend Jimmy Witherspoon in Aust as well as many original folk/rock bands) with some songs by Paul Gadsby (a reputable solo artist in his own right as well as having performed with Paul Kelly, Men at Work etc)& Les Oldman. The sound is reknown for it's funky/blues groove and distinctive sound. Other artists to have performed in Hey Gringo over the years have been well known performers such as guitarist Ross Hannaford(Daddy Cool),drummer Nicky Bomba(Bomba/BananOil),drummer Iain McClennan(Rene Geyer, Richard Clapton, Mondo Rock, Ariel), Steve Hoy. The current line-up is gigging around Melbourne and soon to tour to promote the new album in 2003.
