Hate the Living is a band formed of four friends. It is an effort to forget their full time jobs by producing an energy based music full of the darkness that is their lives. All come from different musical backgrounds yet share the experience of growing up in the south. Being of southern heritage, we try to incorporate the tranquility and essence of southern life amidst the barrage of ups and downs and demon driven tempos in our music. Dirty Dark South, that’s what we call our sound. A reflection of everything we have absorbed over the years, our sound is heavy. Our sound is chaotic. Our sound is structured. Our sound is melodic. Our sound is all of this at once, and then some. Granted, it will probably never change the world, but it will make you think. If one person leaves our show, questioning barriers in their life, if we can only open one mind far enough to see past their nose, it is a success. So far we have played shows at “Tremont Music Hall” in Charlotte, N.C., “Ground Zero” in Spartanburg, S.C., “Lucky’s Night Club” in Wilmington, N.C. We have worked with club promoters as well as regional promoters. Audience response is always energetic and eager. At the “Punk Wars ‘04” show at “Tremont”, we were one of two bands that the audience wanted an encore from. There were eleven bands on that night’s bill. Our audience range in age from 14 to 77. Yes, 77 years of age. So far, she has been to two shows and sports the T-shirt.
