The musical union of Tony Qualls, Nick Ferrer, Marc Quagliara, Tony McCullogh, Andy Dumaresq and Steve Pesich came to fruition in late 2000, resulting in one of the most powerful and musically accomplished groups to emerge from the Chicago area in nearly a decade.
The saga began in mid-1998 when high school classmates Quagliara, Qualls and McCullough formed an early incarnation of Groovatron and got started on the Coffeeshop/outdoor festival circuit. Within weeks, the band had enough original material to fill a three-hour set.
With Ferrer now on board, Groovatron entered the studio to record their debut CD, Marionette. The release was an impressive effort that showed tremendous maturity, both musically and lyrically. But Groovatron was just getting started. Soon after the release of Marionette, Dumaresq and Pesich were brought in to solidify Groovatron's rhythm section, and thus the band's musical direction--one that takes many detours into the realms of funk, jazz, blues and improvised rock'n'roll, yet one that maintains a consistent feel and ability to tap into the pleasure centers of a wide variety of music fans.
Those fans have followed Groovatron from the group's home base in Northwest Indiana to Chicago, down to Florida and soon elsewhere across the United States. They're also lining up to purchase what they have been clamoring for since the current lineup came together: Yes Have Some, Groovatron's second full-length recording that presents the musicianship, songwriting, and vocal abilities of all six members in such undeniably professional fashion that they themselves were stunned at how far they've come in such a short period of time. All the more reason why Groovatron and their fans should look forward to the future--and all the musical adventures that lie ahead--with great anticipation.
