Galya is an enigmatic rock and roll blend of driven, melodic guitars, poetic lyrics, and unique vocals that mesh from a long range of diverse influences. Touching on issues of lost and found love, loss and gain in general, the ever-changing and dying world around us, hope for a change from the dull and violent world we live in, not to mention simple thoughts on everyday feelings and actions, Galya writes and plays with the intention of simply rising above this worlds standards and being bigger than what we really are.
Galya (pronounced Galia), a Hebrew term for 'God redeems', was formed in the late summer of 2001. The first line-up of Galya played for nearly 6 months before complications and artistic differences brought Galya's first run to a bittersweet close. Original bassist Andrew Carlson is now in the band Jupiter Hollow as well as a talented soloist. Upon his departure from the band, the rest of the boys delved into other musical projects and even moved to other states, but things would soon change.
The rest of the original lineup, which is in tact today, is as follows: Nick Rowe as lead guitar and vocals, Jeremiah Wagner and drummer and vocals, and Steven Fleckenstien on guitars. After Galya parted in January 2002, Nick follwed his heart and moved to Texas to work with the nationally renowned Teen Mania Ministries as an intern and musician, eventually gaining an oppurtunity to try out for the band Superchick, but instead he returned to Ohio in the summer of 2003 to begin his college carreer at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, which is also where Jeremiah and Steven were attending. After patching up old wounds and rebuilding the bridges, the guys reformed, but were without a solid, everyday bassist who was ready to commit for the long haul, but in Febuary 2004, that all changed.
Jeremiah met Justin Jolley on a snowy weeknight in late Febuary for the first time and the two eventually ended up having a 5 hour conversation that eventually led up to Justin's joining the band. With Justin being the final piece, Galya has now begun a new chapter in life. To the guys, it's just good quality rock and roll that fits almost anyone's taste. Their first EP, 'Strange Idea', is set for release July 15th, 2004. For more information, go to www.galya.iwarp.com.
