The music of GOD has been described as the Beatles meet Syd Barrett. Our hearts lay in a psychedelic pop sensibility while breaking musical molds and blending various influences into a unique fusion. Some might call us a group of social commentators throwing all musical caution to the wind. Others might say that we’re just stupid. One thing can’t be denied, GOD knows how to play some groovy tunes and sound good doing it. Inevitably, the question must be raised, “Why GOD?” and the answer is never simple. The name GOD isn’t intended as a form of blasphemy or a proclamation of supreme omniscence. We rationalize that GOD is intended to expand people’s ideas about what GOD really is and what it includes. For us, GOD is about sharing that eternal beauty of which we are all apart.

GOD was formed by two stooges from Chicago named Danny Rockett and Mugwump Jizm. Both harked back to an era of high school all-state choir and both found themselves in jobs and situations that they deemed unfulfilling. So, naturally, it was off to NYC to form a performance group/band and try their hands at making music together. The insanity of this decision was too delicious to resist. It didn’t take too long before they found their bassist in Ethan. First a fan, then a friend and now an essential freak to the mix of GOD, Ethan’s lengthy experience of playing in bands and engineering other people’s records at Sony Records found a cozy home with GOD. Alas, finding a drummer wasn’t as easy. After several trials and tribulations leading to the inevitable, “Sorry, but...” speech that comes with the drop-kick, GOD invited over a friend of a friend that happened to play drums among other things. Initially soft-spoken and meek, Dogmeat seemed a tad off the beat in more ways than one, but as time progressed and his personal sensibilities came to the forefront, his drumming chops improved dramatically.

Currently, GOD continues to ramble through the circuit of NYC dens and clubs, occasionally making an appearance at a party or other social function to fill out the soundscape there. We are also recording our first 'group' effort at our home studio in Spanish Harlem. In addition, GOD has succesfully mounted their own theatrical performance piece, the ‘GOD-A-GO-GO’ - an entertaining blend of rockin’ musical theater, creative meditation and surrealism. The ‘GO-GO’ is GOD’s ultimate expression, embracing a multitude of platforms and mediums to realize a more thorough and profoundly personal statement.

Our aim is to always expand, both personally and musically and to break the barriers of the contemporary music scene in NYC and the world at large. Regardless, GOD puts up one helluva show and consistently manages to have fun doing it. If you want weirdo's weirding good with some crazy fun music at your function, we are your electric kool-aid acid test. Either that or a bunch of freaks that can rock the house down...
