Buzzsaw guitars and electronic nicetiesPolitical awareness, and disgust with societyA disdain for the status quoSwirling, passionate live showsThese are a few of Flat Atom’s favorite things
Hacking out their niche in 21st century metal, this quartet of American heretics wields a unique blend of industrial metal, goth, and hardcore as a hammer to pound their message of social and personal responsibility home. Their chaotic live shows are infamous for the intensity they unleash onstage; 3 broken stages, 9 broken PA’s, 1 police report, and a million angry soundmen scattered across the upper Midwest can attest to that fact.
Flat Atom is driven by conflict. The sold-out debut EP ‘Betwixt Four and Six’ on Rez8 Records was about external conflict, as was their acclaimed second EP, ‘RS2k5’, which was self-released. This time around, Flat Atom addresses inner conflict, wrestling with demons on stompers such as “Hollow” and “Noose”. They haven’t forgotten the political rage that helped birth them, however, as the track “Falling Down” demonstrates. The band’s message is not only delivered in person at performances, but via numerous radio stations, internet webcasts, and podcasts; making it easily available to those who will listen.
The band’s internal arrangement reflects their philosophy. Electronic and organic instruments wrestle each other in a psychedelic snarl, while band members re-arrange instrumentation as required – a modular musical cyborg.
