FLY FROM AUGUST
Band Biography

  • From: St. Louis, MO
  • No. of Members: 5
  • Year Established: 1999

Fly From August is an unsigned alternative-rock band from St.Louis, MO. Though the band falls under the alternative category, their first year together has spawned a variety of comparisons to well known bands such as Better Than Ezra, The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Built To Spill, and Chamberlain. The band is fronted by lead singer/songwriter Rich Williams. Tony Spinali provides backing vocals and lead guitar. While rounding out the band's sound are James Kerfoot on drums, Chris Kelley on Bass, and the sparse addition of keyboards and strings. Mellow and driven are words which would also describe this band whose strongest point might be the varied sound each song creates. The band has been described as good musicians that all play at the edge of their abilities.

Currently, Fly From August is in the process of recording their first full length album at Red Light Studios in St. Louis, MO. The album is to be entitled 'The Distance Light Travels' and features the songs 'Cosmonaut' and 'Foul Weather Friend.' A due date for release is currently not available. Contact the band through the website for furthur details.

REVIEWS '...the judges panel, comprised of three music professionals, awarded their top prize to alternative rock band Fly From August...' 'The judge's favorite, Fly From August, 'displayed variety, originality, and complexity...'' 'I was amazed at how mature their sound was for their age.' ~ MARS MUSIC BATTLE OF THE BANDS; St. Charles Journal, May 10 edition, Raymond Castille 'Even if it is a bit off center, Fly From August makes the kind of music that no one ever really gets tired of. Don't confuse that with being formulaic, they're just good songwriters.'

'The songs are the key to this band, as evident in the quirky gem 'Everlasting.' With all its jangly guitars and hooky vocals 'Everlasting' is as catchy as it is timeless.' ~The Pulp, July 2000, Robert Biehl
