FATE
A simple twist of FATE...
In 1994, Pat Sullivan and Justin Babcock, two prominent songwriters from Traverse City, Michigan, wanted to create a new band with power and energy not readily seen in the area. They had previously played in several local bands and wanted to do something bigger and better. They combined their talents with Mike Lumbert, long-time friend and fellow-musician and became FATE, their vision of the future of rock.
The three musicians started writing and knew that they were on the brink of creating something really special. However, the band realized that they needed the driving rhythm that only a top-notch drummer and bassist could provide. They extensivley searched the Northern Michigan area for the right people with the talent, desire and attitude but were not satisfied with their results. The band made the decision that, to be successful, they needed to expand their scope to a market with national musicial exposure. After extensive research into the appropriate place to relocate, FATE moved to Nashville, TN, one of the most prominent musical markets and collections of raw talent in the United States.
Once in Nashville, the members began the strenuous task of finding the musicians that fit the concept of their band. Countless interviews and auditions were held that yielded many talented performers. However, it was not until October of 1999 that the band really found the talent for which they were striving. Bassist Garry Todd, a native of Tennessee, connected with the band immediately, both through his music abilities as well as his vision of the bands direction. Garry also introduced drummer Charlie 'Chuck' Phan to the group. Charlie, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, had moved to the 'Music City' in 1996 with the same goal of performing in a top-notch rock band, focused on their music and their fans.
FATE was created...
The quintet quickly became the talk of the Nashville rock scene. They did countless shows opening for the 'locals' when they realized that with the blend of stage presence and lighting along with the energy just could'nt be reduced to the smaller venues. The show was simply too large.
Within 6 months of their first show they were already being asked to open for 'Nationals'. They did so while blowing people away in front of bands such as Great White, Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society (Ozzy Ozbourne fame) and Def Leppard. They have been featured in several local music magazines as well as having regular rotation on the Nashville radio stations. FATE has built a very loyal fan base that spreads over 5 states with countless street teams. They were averaging 1500 hits and over 200 downloads a month of their music on their webpage. All this completley without the support of an album. It was time to record.
In Oct. of 2000, FATE went into the world renowned recording studio OmniSound Studios based on 'Music Row' downtown Nashville, Tn. that holds a clientel of Jars of Clay, Jewel, Natalie Embruglia, Faith Hill, Travis Tritt, etc. They struck a deal with OmniSound for the recording of their album and begun late Oct. of 2000.
Unfortunatley while they were in the studio they ran into some internal and vision issues. This led to the parting of ways with friend and drummer Charlie Phan in late Feb. of 2001. Ofcourse devistated by the fact that they are in the midst of recording their debut album now FATE is faced with the decision of what to do?? Do you scrape the project or replace him?? They decided to continue to work on the album while searching for their 'new guy'. In comes long time friend Mark Pulley.
Mark is a mutual friend of the bands through their Northern Michigan home base. They all knew each other just from being in different bands in the 'Great White North'. Mark is originally from Petosky, Michigan and shares the same vision with FATE. Mark adds a energy to FATEs music and a drive that had never been there. The connection was there the first time they all played together. He decided to leave the band he had been with for 15 years to re-locate to the Nashville area and to forward his movement to sucess through great music.
FATE was back...
FATE are currentley in the studio putting the finishing touches on their yet untitled album. They are seeking a major label deal with a reputable record company. They are also seeking professional management to help guide them into the right direction. They have the music, looks and attitude. Now they need the people to put them out there for everyone to see.
The band brings a blend of dark three, four and sometimes five part harmonies laid over heavy and concise grooves. FATE combines the raunchiness of modern-day 'new' rock with the technical the abilities of seasoned musicians to create a driving sound with broad mass-market appeal.
This band is built on friendship, respect, loyalty and vision for the future. These guys love what they are doing and that love is reflected in both their music and performances.
FATE dedicates themselves to the audiences of a generation that had supposedly died-The Rock community. This band wants to prove that it is alive and well. Rock as interpreted by FATE and our fans, this WILL push us far into the millennium.
