FAIRFAX
Band Biography

  • From: austin, TX
  • No. of Members: 4
  • Year Established: 2000

Fairfax singer / guitarist Dave Kiesel was weaned on 80's pop anthems and Beatle’s records. From a young age he was entranced by the undeniable magic of pop melodies, big hooks and even bigger choruses. These days, Kiesel rocks hard around the stage, Fender Strat (with a Dave-made camo pick guard) slung across his neck with that patented hair sticking straight up. 'I never intended to be a singer,' Keisel humbly states. 'However, I did grow up loving early Beatles and underground punk rock à la Hopeless Records bands... so singing evolved out of that I suppose. As for guitar, that's easy; I wasn’t a very good Basketball player in High School, so I just sat around and rocked out with my friends. I can't shed the desire to rock out and play huge guitar riffs, even though I'm really only interested in trying to write memorable rock songs,” says Kiesel.

While Kiesel's melodies and riffs hook the unsuspecting listener, it's Fairfax's rock solid rhythm that puts them right where they want to be. Bassist Sam Painter rocks out on the bass like few can. His extensive musical training and Rock n’ Roll presence creates the underlying feel for Fairfax’s intense music. Sam also provides Fairfax with its unique, trade-off vocal parts. He screams out lead parts such as “Light me up Baby” on Oxygen and several other sections of the new LP Light These Dreams. Of course 'A band is only as good as their drummer.' Hooks and melodies alone aren't going to get your foot tapping and pulse jumping. Drummer Brandon Johnson brings the rock with both hands (and a foot, sometimes two) and with his syncopated, “play-it-with-both-hands” backbeats. Johnson throws his head to and fro, as if he were the center of this rock odyssey while jamming note-for-note alongside Painter.

Fairfax’s newest addition laid down those catchy, rock stylings that you just keep humming over and over. Josh Cochran on lead guitar was the missing link and he has now been found. His influence is all over Light These Dreams--from those pretty little melodies to grabbing one note and smash-your-head against the guitar strings. Cochran has brought Fairfax out of Fangorn Forest and they have mounted Isengard.Their new LP, Light These Dreams, is a production masterpiece. Capturing emotion, energy, and straight-up rock, Fairfax turns around and offers it up to the rock gods. Co-producer and engineer David Dreesen of Jacket Weather Records (jacketweather.net) became (and still is) the fifth member of the band for the 2 months tracking, producing, and mixing this record. Light These Dreams deals with everything from growing up and fighting to remain your true self, to issues on regret, to encouraging messages of self-empowering rock; this record brings home emotions common to all. Most of this record was written and fleshed out in the studio over a two month capsule and “now starting over is ready to explode.”
