Edge City Collective is a collaboration of ten musicians with backgrounds randing from jazz to electronic to world to classical music. We work together to create music through improvisation. Our goals are to stretch the limits of our creativity and cross the usual 'boundary lines'. We started out in 1999, recording our first CD, 'Guitarrasalto'. We're pleased (and a little embarrassed) to tell you that we've received international acclaim for it. (To see the reviews, please visit our web site.) We were a featured artist in the 2000 Rootsworld Free Reed Festival. We've subsequently expanded the group, extended our live performances, and recorded a second album, which we hope to release in the very near future.

Our music is challenging and rewarding. It's improvisational. Much of it is pleasing and accessible, while other pieces are unruly and intense. We try to develop many different emotions, and take our listeners on a journey filled with surprises. All our different influences add up to a unique international flavor with twists and turns all over the place.

The original collectivists are: Jon Madof (guitars), Scott Schaffer (guitar, mandolin), Michael Taylor (bass), Ranji Kumar (accordion) and Jon Thompson (tenor and soprano sax, flute, melodica). The five newest members are: Paul Downie (doumbek, percussion), Woz (electronics, accordion), Dennis Hertzog (violin) and Hugh Wattles (alto sax). The members hail from Philadelphia, New York City, Delaware and Maryland. They are ten distinctive voices that chart new musical territory. Take a trip to Edge City and see for yourself...
